A new sans serif family joining our library, Metra is the 2.0 extended version of an earlier release by Hugo Le Corre, a multifaceted sans serif of generous appearance. Conceived as a ‘mixed breed’ typeface, Metra seeks to have two archetypal type genres, Grotesk and Geometric, meet and merge into a singular and cohesive design. Characterised by their plenteous steadiness, large x-height and flared capital M, the initial cuts were augmented with their matching italics and reinforced with new styles. The 2.0 family entails a solid fold of 22 styles and a high-scale character set for Latin-based languages. These include Vietnamese, better support for African languages like Hausa, Igbo, Lingála, as well as the Pan-Nigerian alphabet, in the tracks of Christoph Koeberlin’s great work on Latin character sets. The Metra family sees two stylistic sets colliding: Grotesk and Geometric. Insuring a versatile usage, they feature both letter and number alternates and round off this very complete release.

The underlying physical process creating photons in a laser is the same as in thermal radiation, but the actual emission is not the result of random thermal processes. Instead, the release of a photon is triggered by the nearby passage of another photon. This is called stimulated emission. For this process to work, the passing photon must be similar in energy, and thus wavelength, to the one that could be released by the atom or molecule, and the atom or molecule must be in the suitable excited state.

The kilowatt is typically used to express the output power of engines and the power of electric motors, tools, machines, and heaters. It is also a common unit used to express the electromagnetic power output of broadcast radio and television transmitters. One kilowatt is approximately equal to 1.34 horsepower. A small electric heater with one heating element can use 1 kilowatt. The average electric power consumption of a household in the United States is about 1 kilowatt. A surface area of 1 square meter on Earth receives typically about one kilowatt of sunlight from the Sun (the solar irradiance) (on a clear day at midday, close to the equator).
